Hava Kararmadan... Before It Gets Dark..

50. Venedik Bienali'nde Türkiye’yi temsil eden ve 1990'lı yılların başından bu yana İstanbul güncel sanat ortamının yanı sıra Berlin, Hamburg ve Londra gibi sanat metropollerinde katıldığı sergilerle adından söz ettiren Gül Ilgaz’ın ikinci kişisel sergisi 10 Mart - 09 Nisan arasında Daire Sanat'da izleyici ile buluşuyor.

Sanatçı, “Hava Kararmadan…” başlıklı sergisinde çoğunlukla gece çekilmiş fotoğraf ve video çalışmaları ile karşımıza çıkıyor. “Hava Kararmadan…” çoğumuzun çocukluğuna ait ortak bilinçaltımızdan seslenen bir deyiştir. Karanlık; bakışın ve görüşün kısıtlandığı bir konum olarak hepimize ait tedirgin edici bir durumdur. Sanatçı bizi endişeye sevk eden bir bekleyişi sakin bir şekilde sunarken bir yandan da bu durum içinde dahi dengeyi bulma çabamızın altını çiziyor. Durumun karanlığı ile kendi karanlık taraflarımız arasında gidiş gelişler yaratarak izleyiciyi de sorgulamanın içine çekiyor. Kişisel karanlığımızla baş başa kaldığımızda hissettiğimiz gerçeklik duygusundan, bir sanatçının karanlık algılamasındaki ışığı da gözler önüne seren bu sergide mekan kullanımının sergiye katkısını izleyeceksiniz.

Gül Ilgaz, who has represented Turkey in the 50th Venice Biennale and has made a name for herself since the 1990’s not only in the contemporary Istanbul art scene but also in art metropolises such as Berlin, Hamburg and London with the exhibitions she has participated in these cities, opens her second personal exhibition on March 10-April 09 at the Daire Art Gallery.

In her exhibition titled “Before It Gets Dark…”, the artist presents us with photography and video works mostly shot at night. “Before It Gets Dark…” is a phrase that most of us are familiar with from the shared sub-consciousness of our childhood. The dark emerges as an unsettling state where the vision is limited. The artist presents an unsettling wait in a calm manner and also emphasizes our attempt to try to ?nd a balance even under these circumstances. Creating a tide between the darkness of the circumstances and the dark parts of our identities, she absorbs us in a state of questioning. In this exhibition which displays both the sense of reality that we feel when we are left alone with our personal darkness and an artist’s perception of light within this darkness, you will witness the ways in which the utilization of space can contribute to an exhibition.
